Additive manufacturing techniques for smart prosthetic liners

چکیده

Elastomeric liners are commonly worn between the prosthetic socket and limb. A number of improvements to state art liner technology required address outstanding problems. that conforms residuum more accurately, may improve skin health at stump-socket interface. Previous work has shown for effective thermal management environment, an active heat removal system is required, yet this not available. Volume tracking stump could be used as a diagnostic tool looking changes occur across day all users, which depend on activity level, position, interaction forces with We believe it would advantageous embed these devices into smart liner, replaced repaired easily than highly costly labour-intensive custom-made socket. This paper presents develop capabilities in soft material technology, with: development printable nanocomposite stretch sensor system; low-cost digital method casting bespoke liners; embedded growth / volume tracking; model cooling system.

Additive Manufacturing Techniques for the Reconstruction of 3D Fetal Faces

This paper deals with additive manufacturing techniques for the creation of 3D fetal face models starting from routine 3D ultrasound data. In particular, two distinct themes are addressed. First, a method for processing and building 3D models based on the use of medical image processing techniques is proposed. Second, the preliminary results of a questionnaire distributed to future parents cons...

Shape Optimization for Additive Manufacturing of Removable Partial Dentures - A New Paradigm for Prosthetic CAD/CAM

With ever-growing aging population and demand for denture treatments, pressure-induced mucosa lesion and residual ridge resorption remain main sources of clinical complications. Conventional denture design and fabrication are challenged for its labor and experience intensity, urgently necessitating an automatic procedure. This study aims to develop a fully automatic procedure enabling shape opt...

Reconstruction of an Extensive Midfacial Defect Using Additive Manufacturing Techniques.

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors are extremely rare tumors arising in peripheral nerves. Only 17 cases involving the trigeminal nerve have ever been reported. These tumors have a very poor prognosis and very high rates of recurrence and metastases. Their recommended treatment involves complete tumor resection followed by radiation. This can be problematic in the head and neck region. We...

Implicit modeling for additive manufacturing

Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology distinguishes itself from more traditional fabrication processes by several significant factors. It allows the creation of objects with complex geometry that would not be possible by subtractive manufacturing or molding. Additionally, 3d printers are of much simpler use than other tools. Finally, since the cost per objects does not change depending on the ...

Topology Optimization for Additive Manufacturing

This paper gives an overview of the issues and opportunities for the application of topology optimization methods for additive manufacturing (AM). The main analysis issues discussed are: how to achieve the maximum geometric resolution to allow the fine features easily manufacturable by AM to be represented in the optimization model; the manufacturing constraints to be considered, and the workfl...
